Miss Thompson taught games at DWS for many years. Her neat handwriting was familiar to us all. Each day she would post various lists on the Games noticeboard. There were lists of teams playing in the Saturday matches, cricket ,tennis and netball practice information.<p> At weekends there were compulsory walks and umpires needed for tennis, hockey, netball and cricket matches. Then there was the annual house swimming Gala and annual dancing competition to organise and no doubt lots more besides.<p> We played some form of games every day and must have been a pretty fit lot as a result.

The weather was so bad that it was decided we should return to school by train from Menai Bridge Station. It was so cold even at mid morning, but those scarves and heavy winter bottle green coats kept our bodies warm - our legs and feet however were freezing (30 denier crepe nylons did nothing to warm our legs) No hats you note - vanity urged us to remove them, after all we were having our photo taken with a 'Box Brownie'. My father said 'CHEESE' and we smiled obligingly! The journey was uneventful apart from missing our connection at Afon Wen, another cold wait in the Waiting room using our time to test our 'genol' ready for a test the following day - first day of Spring term 1963 . Arrived late in Dolgelley just in time for High Tea.
