The school plays covered a fairly wide literary spectrum and in her time at the school, reflected Miss Nightingale's own interest in the status of women and in her classical training.

The first one I remember is 'The Knight of the Burning Pestle' by Beaumont and Fletcher. We performed 'She Stoops to Conquer' by Goldsmith, 'The Rivals' by Sheridan and Shakespeare's 'Much Ado about Nothing' and 'Julius Caesar'. Others included 'The Bishop's Candlesticks' and a dramatized version of 'Les Miserables'.

Plays were all performed on the rather small gym platform, made even smaller by having to have girls hidden in the wings on either side with a piano. The eventual building in 1939 of an impressive new hall with a sunk organ transformed both the possibilities and the production of school plays.
