<p>Lizzie (Elizabeth) Emily Daniels was born in 1890. Her grandson sent us this wonderful group photograph which is new to us. Lizzie is in the front row, 7th from the right, kneeling. The photograph was taken by J.D.Gaffron, The County Studio, Dolgelley. It is not dated. However, thanks to the National Library of Wales digitising early school magazines up to 1910, we believe it is 1903 or 1904. This is when Emily Daniels appears on the form lists. In 1903 Emily gets another mention when she dresses up as Old Mother Hubbard for a DWS Fancy Dress Dance. We do not know the occasion which prompted this assembly of the whole school but it looks like the lady in the hat could be important! The headmistress (Diana Thomas) is seated centrally, close to said behatted lady. In between is Miss Anstey (white blouse, glasses) who became headmistress in 1906.

<p>Dr Williams'School, Dolgelley (sic) Reunion Dinner in 1950 offered what looks like the kind of school dinner we can all remember apart,that is, from the sherry trifle and TWO types of potato. The well known writer(and 'old girl') Marion Eames responded to the Toast to 'Women of the Future'proposed by another 'old girl'the writer and teacher Annie Ffoulkes, whose anthology 'Telyn y dydd' became part of the curriculum in Welsh schools.

Somewhere on the Mawddach, excavating
<br>The sedimentary layers of my youth
<br>I found your smile.
<br>In sepia, framed transgressive
<br>And lounging between
<br>The empty parallels of stark infinity,
<br>You spoke.
<br>Confident, optimistic and open
<br>Even at a point of closure;
<br>Full of possibilities,

<p>This photo was in the 1959 school magazine with an article by an Upper IIIrd pupil (equivalent of Year 7 today), here is an extract:
</p>
<p>"We couldn't decide what we wanted to see first as the roaring of lions, chattering of monkeys and splashing of seals were very alluring and exciting. In the end, after a lot of indecision, the lions won and we set off for their enclosure, passing brightly coloured birds and white, fuzzy bears on the way........The elephants towered over us and we felt minute by the side of them, one of them ate a book that some boys were looking ar. We all hoped he got indigestion for being so greedy.
</p>
<p>All the parents were sure of one letter that week, and the postbox was filled with postcards the next day.
</p>

The Head Girl Gaynor Williams (Rhyl), presented Dame Margaret with a golden pair of scissors, and Ann Alun Pugh (later Lady Hibbert) with a bouquet."

<p>After leaving school in the summer of 1966, Nesta Roberts, a Dolgellau girl embarked on a nursing course in Birmingham and as many of us did, wrote to Miss Lickes informing her she had settled in well and was enjoying herself. DBL was always interested in what her 'gels' were doing once they had left school and she always replied. Possibly it was a dictated letter which Miss Rees (herself an OG) her secretary typed up.
</p>
<p>It was kind of DBL to mention the established Midlands OG branch but Nesta did not follow up the suggestion of getting in touch with the branch secretary!
</p>
