Cost-cutting experiment, 1966
On 21 July 1966, Miss Lickes wrote to parents explaining that in an effort to combat ever-rising costs, girls would in future be asked to give more help with the domestic work of the school. I recall drying dishes and cutlery in the kitchen next to the smaller of the two dining rooms, where we had second sittings. She also reminded parents not to send any "contraband" such as sweets, chocolate etc in parcels to girls or to allow them to try to smuggle any in after going out weekends.
