Kindness in the school (three examples 1950-58)

In 1957 when, like others I had severe 'flu, Miss Salway (Mathematics, Head of Guides and Rangers and Penycoed) lent me several books from her personal library to keep me amused.

The girl who played the March Hare in 'Alice' had to eat an enormous sandwich, cut from the length of a quartern loaf. The catering staff who provided this for later rehearsals and the performance used different fillings each time (sometimes something different at either end) so she did not tire of all the sandwiches she had to consume.

One Sunday our walking group crossed the river at a further bridge and were delayed. I telephoned from Tyn-y-Groes Hotel (yes,a long way back) to explain our dilemma. We returned for Long Prayers but had missed supper. Without reprimand our meal was laid out for us after the service by the catering staff which was very thoughtful.
