'Eluned Morgan's letter to her dear young colleagues' 1897 1
The writer Eluned Morgan Jones was born in 1870 on board The Myfanwy en route to the Welsh settlement in Patagonia.The daughter of one of the first settlers,she was sent to Dr Williams' School in 1885 speaking Spanish and Welsh. This letter appears in the first edition of the School Magazine in 1897 on her return to Patagonia. She writes in particular to the Welsh girls on this occasion. Eluned's letter is about a love of the language, speaking and reading Welsh. She asks would they like to travel the length and breadth of Wales without hearing one word of the old Welsh tongue being spoken?
