<p>The school laundry was situated just to the left of the tennis courts; a place where underwear and handkerchiefs were boiled! The Afon Wen Laundry washed blouses, sheets, pyjamas etc.

<p>Margaret Griffiths, Jeanette James, Gwyneth Powell, Pamela Thom, Anne Lloyd Davies and Mary Hewitt from Forms V1A and V1B debated at a Mock Election during the Easter Term 1949.

<p> Margaret holds the 'VOTE LIBERAL' poster - she was related to Clement Davies (former Liberal MP for Montgomeryshire).Pam Thom and Shirley Rushton were candidates too. The Communist party is also represented by Anne and Mary who hold a poster depicting the Hammer and Sickle,with the slogan 'THE DEMOCRACY'. The other two parties appear to represent girls at the school, as opposed to other political parties current at the time.
</p>
<p>The girls are wearing their Sunday Best school uniform for the photograph. The dress wasn't the favourite item of uniform and was generally called a sack!
</p>

<p>We are not sure who the girls are in this picture but we think the walk could have been one we knew as 'Plantation'.
</p>
<p>'Plantation' was at the top of the hill, way above Penycoed, the biggest of the DWS boarding houses. There is housing at the photograph's location today.'Plantation' is no more.
</p>

<p>Susan and Jane grin at the photographer. They are both wearing their school uniform issue dungarees. Dungarees were only worn by the junior school pupils (based at Glyn). For most lessons Susan and Jane would have worn gym slips, just like their counterparts in the first three years at the Senior school.

<p>Also in the background can clearly be seen the tank defences constructed in 1940-41 above Fairbourne beach.
