Prize Day programme cover 1885
The earliest prize day programme shows a record of 'Special Prizes' awarded in 1884. There are Cambridge University Certificates (senior and junior), certificates for physiology, botany, model drawing and geometry. There are music prizes and the winner of the 'Cooking Class' was awarded a copy of 'Mrs Beeton's Household Management'. Other prizes were awarded for the 'Best Garden' and 'Needlework'.
A 'Boarders Prize' was also awarded. There is no indication as to what a boarder did to merit the prize. I can imagine how thrilled she must have been to read 'Scenes from Clerical Life' as her reward.
The school's headmistress at this time was Miss Emily Armstrong.
