Parti Deuddeg

Members of the school choir took part in the Youth Choir which sang at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 1949. Twelve pupils in the 5th and 6th forms, known as Parti Deuddeg ('Party of Twelve') won with their entry ‘Y mae afon’ (There is a River) by Daniel Protheroe. They were trained by Menna Carrington Jones, a music teacher at DWS from 1948 to 1951.In this photo she is 5th from left. From left to right, are Gwyneth Powell, Anne Lloyd Davies,Dilys Jones, Menna Carrington Jones (teacher),?, Kitty Williams, Morfydd Parry, Tegwen Harris Jones, Bidi Davies, Jeanette James, Olwen Williams.

You can hear the group sing their winning entry ('Y Mae Afon') at the Eisteddfod as an audio file on this website. One participant, on hearing it for the first time at Dolgellau library in 2015, smiled broadly and sang along again.
